ZAGREB, Jan 14 (Hina) - Caritas Croatia is surprised by the media depiction of amendments to the Trade Act, saying in a statement on Wednesday that a significant part of the media, instead of focusing on the good sides of the Act or its possible shortcomings, focused on those who initiated it, saying they were responsible or to blame for its adoption.
ZAGREB, Jan 14 (Hina) - Caritas Croatia is surprised by the media depiction of amendments to the Trade Act, saying in a statement on Wednesday that a significant part of the media, instead of focusing on the good sides of the Act or its possible shortcomings, focused on those who initiated it, saying they were responsible or to blame for its adoption.#L# The statement signed by Caritas Croatia president Archbishop Ivan Prendja said the focus of media attention were the sponsors of the amendments instead of those on account of whom the Act was changed or who had a positive opinion of it. It added the Act was also blamed for unrelated issues, such as the higher prices of bread. The statement recalled that Caritas Croatia and the other sponsors of the Act had wanted to be the voice of between 50,000 and 70,000 workers who had not been able to fight for their labour rights. According to Caritas Croatia, the negative atmosphere surrounding the Act has been augmented by threats to lay off workers. "All this has taken on the form of public manipulation as some media don't relay public opinion but impose it," failing to advocate human and labour rights, read the statement Caritas Croatia hopes the impending Constitutional Court ruling on the Trade Act amendments will be for man's benefit.
