The unions decided to launch action after the failure of negotiations with the government, which refused the union request for a permanent monthly bonus of 300 kuna to catch up with the salaries of public servants and other budgetary users.
Leaders of unions gathering civil servants and police and army employees told reporters that courts, ministries and other state administration bodies would not be working on the day of the strike, December 28, from 8 am to 4 pm.
Police and customs services will go on a white strike, which means that they will slow down their work, reporters were told.
The Croatian Customs Workers' Union today said that it would not take part in the strike although it supported any action resulting in the improvement of the position of civil servants. "Our requests go way beyond 300 kuna," said union leader Zeljko Popovic. Customs workers demand an accelerated retirement plan, an increase in coefficients and a 20-percent bonus for working conditions.
