ZAGREB, Nov 23 (Hina) - Four trade union federations said on
Wednesday that working on Sundays should not be banned, but that employers
should pay extra for such work and ensure that employees had a week day off in
line with the Labour Act and collective agreements. "It is
counterproductive to ban working on Sundays in a country with a near 20%
unemployment rate if working on Sundays, and even on Saturdays and holidays,
suits people," Vesna Dejanovic, leader of the Federation of Independent Trade
Unions of Croatia (SSSH), said at a press conference.
Dejanovic said that the only criterion for allowing working on Sundays
should be employers' assessment whether they could pay 280% for work on
Sundays, as provided for under the law, or not.
