ZAGREB, Dec 13 (Hina) - It is not true that last year's business performance of Croatian Radio Television was successful and that the level of professionalism and responsibility in HRT rose, Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) deputies said after HRT officials presented a report in parliament on Tuesday.

HRT chief director Mirko Galic said that despite the competition, HRT achieved positive results in 2004.

With two channels, HRT's income was almost equal to that when Croatian Television had three channels, Galic said. Income dropped by 1.2 percent, but is still 2.5 percent higher than planned, he added.

Galic said HRT must preserve independence from any government. He, however, said there were still cases of one-sidedness, superficiality and bias in reporting.

The head of the HRT Programmes Council, Zdenko Ljevak, talked about the Council's work stressing that the Council did not have influence on shows prior to broadcasting.

I cannot say anything on behalf of the Council about the political talk-show "Latinica", but personally I am very dissatisfied with last night's show, Ljevak said.

Refuting assessments that the level of professionalism and responsibility in HRT has increased, an HDZ deputy wondered who was responsible for last night's show and for other "Latinica" shows.
