RIGA, Dec 6 (Hina) - This year has seen a flurry of Croatian diplomatic activity as the government focused its efforts on opening accession talks with the European Union, Prime Minister Ivo Sanader said on Tuesday.

This is a year of great foreign policy successes of Croatia and we can look back with great pleasure, Sanader told reporters in Riga after meeting Latvian Prime Minister Aigars Kalvitis.

The Croatian prime minister announced that he would attend a European Union summit in Brussels on 15 December.

Asked whether his government would extend the stand-by arrangement with the International Monetary Fund, Sanader said that the issue was under consideration and it would most likely be extended. He added that an IMF delegation would visit Zagreb in the coming days.

"I can't say what our final decision will be. I will personally push for the stand-by arrangement to be extended," Sanader said.

Speaking of Britain's EU budget plan, Sanader said that Croatia was closely following what was going on in the EU, but that at the moment it was busy with membership talks and its efforts to ensure that they were effective and swift. He added that Croatia was not interfering in the EU budget debate.

The Croatian prime minister ended his visit to Latvia on Tuesday afternoon with talks with President Vaira Vike-Freiberg and Parliament Speaker Ingrid Udre.
