"Croatia strongly supports the OSCE's concept of security and a multidimensional approach that includes an important role of human dimension, full respect for human rights and freedoms, democracy and the rule of law, and equally two other dimensions of security -- political/military and environmental," Grabar-Kitarovic said.
As a multiethnic and multicultural country, Croatia supports activities by the OSCE regarding tolerance and non-discrimination, and is ready to host an OSCE seminar next year that will focus on problems in combating intolerance and hate speech, she said.
The minister highlighted Croatia's efforts within the OSCE in combating illegal migrations and human trafficking and its involvement in disarmament control and the enhancement of border security.
Grabar-Kitarovic further stressed Croatia's leading role in mine removal operations in the region, adding that it was also a party to all international conventions on counter-terrorism. In this context she recalled that in September this year President Stjepan Mesic signed the 13th International Convention for the Suppression of Acts of Nuclear Terrorism and Prime Minister Ivo Sanader signed the Council of Europe Convention on the Prevention of Terrorism.
Speaking of the situation in Southeast Europe, Grabar-Kitarovic underlined the importance of cooperation with the OSCE in its missions, saying that the organisation had helped the region to largely transform itself from a zone of conflict into an area of cooperation.
"As for bilateral cooperation with neighbouring countries, I should note in particular a positive pace of relations with Serbia and Montenegro following Prime Minister Sanader's visit to Belgrade last year and Serbian Prime Minister (Vojislav) Kostunica's recent visit to Zagreb," she said.
The minister also explained Croatia's position on cooperation with neighbouring countries and the Constitution of Bosnia-Herzegovina based on the Dayton peace agreement.
"Within the framework of OSCE mechanisms and activities, as well as other regional and subregional organisations and initiatives, Croatia will actively cooperate with the neighbouring countries and the countries in the region in many issues of common interest. We will continue our policy of active involvement in Southeast Europe and in the further promotion of stability in the region," Grabar-Kitarovic said.
