ZAGREB, Dec 4 (Hina) - The Croatian Ministry of Culture plans to use higher budgetary allocations for the construction of several museums and libraries across the country, including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb, which is expected to open by the end of 2006.

The budget for culture for 2006 is 22 per cent higher than the one for 2005, totalling 877.7 million kuna (approximately 118 million euros), and is development-oriented, Culture Minister Bozo Biskupic told Hina in an interview on Sunday.

Next year should see completion of the construction of a museum of sculptures of Roman emperors in Vid near Metkovic, the site of the ancient Roman colony of Narona, and a museum of early humans in Krapina, and preparation of a permanent exhibition in the Jasenovac World War Two memorial park.

On the other hand, construction work will start on a museum of contemporary art in Rijeka, a museum of the Homeland War in Zagreb, and a museum of ancient Roman glass and a museum of submarine archeology in Zadar.

Biskupic announced construction of an archeology museum in Osijek, a Marco Polo museum in Korcula and a museum of emigrants in Rijeka.

Budgetary funds will also be invested in the construction of an archeological park at Vukovar, the funding for which has been approved by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and in the construction or completion of libraries in Split, Rijeka, Bjelovar, Karlovac, Sisak, Slavonski Brod and Virovitica.
