ZAGREB, Dec 3 (Hina) - Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader and his Slovak counterpart Mikulas Dzurinda on Saturday opened a Croatian museum and cultural centre in Devinska Nova Ves, near Bratislava, whose construction was financed by the Croatian and Slovak governments.

The purpose of the project is to help local Croats, who have lived in Devinska Nova Ves for 400 years, to preserve their national and cultural identity.

Both prime ministers stressed the importance of the Croat minority in Slovakia, Croatia Radio reported.

"It is in our interest that Croats in contemporary Europe feel lije equal citizens of that society and that they are integrated in the full sense of that word, be it Slovakia, Hungary, Austria, Italy or Serbia and Montenegro," Sanader said.

I believe that cooperation between the Croat national minority and Slovakia is fantastic, the Slovak prime minister said. We have built a civil society in which each member must feel at home, Dzurinda said.

This is a great day for Croats in Slovakia, said Sanader whose government invested 150,000 euros in the construction of the museum and the cultural centre,

Dzurinda said the Slovak government would continue to finance minority projects, including those of the Croat minority in the Bratislava region.

The two prime minister also talked about Croatia's process of joining the EU. Dzurinda reiterated his full support to Croatia on that path and announced a meeting of Slovak and Croatian negotiators.

Apart from Sanader and Dzurinda, also presented at the opening was Croatian Culture Minister Bozo Biskupic.

Later today, the two prime ministers will attend Davis Cup finals between Slovakia and Croatia.
