The campaign started on Labour Day, May 1, when workers were called to report employers tolerating black labour, failing to pay salaries or paying workers "under the table", failing to pay for overtime work, making employees work longer hours, etc.
The union reported 1,710 cases of black labour, 942 cases of failure to pay salaries, 1,388 cases of failure to pay for overtime work, 703 cases of employees working longer hours, etc. Failure to pay salaries and to pay for overtime work was most frequently reported in the commercial sector, while overtime work was most frequently reported in the construction sector. With 1,710 unregistered workers, the state loses more than 55 million kuna annually in taxes and contributions.
The SSSH has launched a new project with the aim of preventing black labour through social partnership, and Kutina is the first town where the project is being implemented.
