ZAGREB, Nov 12 (Hina) - The president of the Croatian Society of
Political Prisoners - Victims of Communism, Marko Veselica, has urged Prime
Minister Ivo Sanader and Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandic to provide political,
administrative and financial support to this non-governmental organisation. Some 100,000 Croatian men and women supporting a free, independent and
democratic Croatia were subjected to criminal prosecution and different forms
of harassment and abuse due to political reasons, which had grave consequences
for their lives and the lives of their children, the society said in a letter
to Sanader and Bandic on Saturday.
Most former political prisoners have died and the society now has some
6,000 members, said the society's vice-president, Djuro Perica.
