Participants in the conference moved for a more flexible labour legislation and reform of the education system stressing that those measures would advance the labour market and reduce unemployment in Croatia.
The labour market issue must be in the focus of Croatia's national development policy, Economy, Labour and Entrepreneurship Minister Branko Vukelic said at the conference.
He said the biggest problems on the labour market in Croatia were the fact young people had hard time to enter the labour market, a high unemployment rate of young women and the elderly and a low employee/population ratio.
Mel Lambert of the International Labour Organisation said Great Britain became one of the most popular investment destinations owing to a consistent 20-year long reform of the labour legislation. The flexibility of the labour market has increased productivity, put an end to a long-standing unemployment rate and encouraged labour mobility, Lambert said
