According to a survey conducted by the "Strateski marketing" agency, whose results were announced in Belgrade on Wednesday, 64 per cent of citizens would vote in favour of EU membership, 12 per cent would be against, while 16 per cent would not turn out for the vote.
Forty per cent of respondents hope Serbia and Montenegro will become a full EU member by 2010 and as many expect this to happen by 2015, while 20 per cent think that the state union will become a full member of the bloc after 2015.
A survey conducted by the same agency in September 2004 showed that 71 per cent of residents of Serbia supported the country's EU membership bid.
The head of the Government Office for Accession to the EU, Tanja Miscevic, sees the decline in support as the growing awareness of citizens that EU membership brings not only benefits, but also obligations.
