SARAJEVO, Oct 5 (Hina) - The upper house of the Bosnian parliament on Wednesday passed new laws on defence and on service in the armed forces, thus completing legislative activities in the process of reorganising the country's defence system.

The laws were previously adopted by the parliament's lower house.

Under the new laws, the defence ministries of the Croat-Muslim and Serb entities will cease to exist on 1 January 2006, and they will be replaced with a single ministry on the state level.

The existing entity armies will be transformed into state armed forces consisting of three regiments with some 10,000 professional soldiers and officers.

The process is expected to be completed by September 2006.
