BRUSSELS, Sept 27 (Hina) - The exact date of a meeting of the EU task force for the evaluation of Croatia's cooperation with the Hague-based UN war crimes tribunal has not yet been set, but the meeting is very likely to be held over the coming weekend.

The task force will hold the meeting in the period from Friday, 30 September, to Monday, 3 October, the spokesman for the British presidency of the European Union, Jonathan Allen, said in Brussels on Tuesday.

According to Austrian sources, the date of the EU task force 's meeting would be clearer on Thursday after the session of COREPER, the Committee of Permanent Representatives of EU member-states in charge of preparing the agenda for the ministerial council of the European Union meetings.

During Thursday's session of COREPER, the British Presidency of the EU is expected to try ensure a unanimous agreement of EU member-states on a negotiating framework for the entry talks with Turkey.

The agreement must be adopted unanimously so as to launch negotiations with Ankara on 3 October.

Britain is a strong advocate of Turkey's admission. On the other hand, Austria would like to introduce so-called privileged partnership for Turkey as an alternative for its possible full membership, but Ankara rules it out.

Officials of Britain and Austria, which strongly advocates the immediate start of entry talks with Croatia, held a bilateral meeting in Brussels on Monday to try to find solutions, but they failed to make progress, according to diplomatic sources.

On Tuesday, an idea appeared on convening EU foreign ministers a day before 3 October, i.e. on Sunday evening, to discuss the matter pertaining to Turkey.

In that case it is very likely that the EU task force evaluating Croatia's cooperation with the tribunal will also convene on Sunday evening.

According to diplomatic sources, all options are open for the start of Croatia's entry talks.
