ZAGREB, Sept 23 (Hina) - The Croatian parliament on Friday decided to introduce three new memorial days, marking September 25, 1943, when the northern Adriatic region of Istria, the cities of Rijeka and Zadar and islands were re-integrated into Croatia, January 15, 1991, when Croatia was internationally recognised, and January 9, 1919, when the northern Medjimurje region became part of Croatia.

Most deputies supported the government's amendments to the Law on Holidays, Memorial Days and Non-Working Days, which introduce the three new memorial days.

Memorial days are working days.

The government's proposals on the establishment of a permanent state election commission and direct election of mayors, municipal heads and county prefects were sent into the second parliamentary reading.

The parliament did not adopt bills by the HNS/PGS club of deputies on local and regional self-government units and the election of representative bodies, mayors, municipal heads and county prefects.

The vote on the government's bill on changes to the Law on Local and Regional Self-Government Units was postponed so that the government could take a position on the submitted amendments.

The parliament will resume its 16th session next week, when it will discuss privatisation.

The parliamentary presidency will next week hold a session to take a position on statements made by deputies of the Croatian People's Party (HNS), who said the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) was a criminal organisation that should be banned, Parliament Speaker Vladimir Seks said today.

The session was requested by the HDZ club of deputies following statements by Antun Kapraljevic and Jaksa Marasovic of the HNS.

The HDZ has requested the HNS to distance itself from and condemn the statements.
