VIENNA, Sept 16 (Hina) - During their six-hour-long talks, which were held in Vienna, officials of Serbia and Kosovo on Friday managed to reduce differences in their positions on some unsolved issues in connection with the 1998-1999 war.

The UN-sponsored talks, held in the Austrian Foreign Ministry's offices, are perceived as an introduction into negotiations on the political future of the province of Kosovo.

Administration ministers of Kosovo and Serbia, Lutfi Haziri and Zoran Loncar respectively, discussed the decentralisation of Kosovo and some other related issues.

Sources close to negotiating teams said that the talks had focused on less sensitive issues such as the local self-government and the return of tens of thousands of Serbs and other non-Albanians who fled Kosovo after the war.

The two sides also discussed the return of land books which the then Serb authorities had taken from Kosovo during 1999 air strikes carried out by NATO against the Slobodan Milosevic regime.

Kosovo's Haziri described the talks as very constructive. "We have decided to continue with discussions on the issues," he added.

The UN Secretary-General's special advisor for Kosovo, Kai Eide, has announced that he will soon submit his report on Kosovo to Kofi Annan.

Vienna has expressed willingness to host further Serbia-Kosovo talks.
