ZAGREB, Sept 14 (Hina) - Germany and Romania are among 17 countries that are staging national exhibitions at the Autumn International Trade Fair in Zagreb, which is open from 13 from 18 September.

The German exhibition features 16 companies from the fields of electronics, environmental protection, the building, chemical, wood-processing and metal industries, and transport. Their joint appearance has been organised by the DEGA Expoteam agency and financed by the German Ministry of Economic Affairs and Labour.

An additional 110 German firms are presenting their products individually or through their Croatian partners.

Germany is Croatia's second largest foreign trade partner, while Croatia ranks 49th among Germany's most important trade partners. In the first seven months of this year trade between the two countries exceeded USD 2 billion.

Germany is one of the most important investors in the Croatian economy, with German investment projects accounting for 14 per cent of all direct investments in Croatia from 1993 until the first quarter of 2005.

The German Embassy in Zagreb has said that a large segment of the German manufacturing industry finds the Croatian market interesting in terms of investment and that the interest of German investors will further promote business cooperation between the two countries.

The Romanian exhibition, organised by the Romanian Embassy, features 14 companies, including producers of alcoholic drinks, glass and plastics, and representatives of energy, metal-processing and cosmetics firms. The companies are not yet present on the Croatian market.

Romanian wine and brandy makers and cosmetics producers are particularly interested in establishing business cooperation with Croatian entrepreneurs.

In the first half of 2005 trade between Croatia and Romania totalled USD 178.3 million, with Croatian exports accounting for USD 43.5 million and imports for USD 134.8 million.
