PRISTINA, Aug 29 (Hina) - The murder of two Serb youths and the wounding of another two Serbs on Saturday evening in Kosovo is an isolated and tragic incident, and despite an intensive investigation the police still do not have any suspects, the international police commissioner in Pristina, Kai Vittrup, told a news conference on Monday.

The police commissioner, who labelled the killing of the Serb youths as a top priority case, said that relevant bodies in Kosovo would spare no effort to bring to justice those responsible for the murder.

Commenting on statements by some Serbian officials who said that the murder of the two Serbs was an act of terror against the Serb minority in Kosovo, Vittrup said that nobody should jump to conclusions.

The ongoing investigations have revealed no evidence of anything like that. There are still no suspects so we cannot speak about the motives, Vittrup said.

The international police have increased the number of checkpoints in the province and stepped up patrols in the Serb-populated areas.

On Monday, Kosovo Serbs in Strpce, the norther part of Mitrovica and Gracanica held protest rallies condemning Saturday's murder.

The two Serb youths were killed and the other two were wounded when their car was shot at on a road in southeast Kosovo on Saturday night. The incident occurred on the Urosevac to Strpce road near the village of Banjica, police said in a statement. The two men who were killed were identified as Ivan Dejanovic and Aleksandar Stankovic of Novo Naselje near Lipljan. Serb sources identified the wounded men as Aleksandar Janicijevic and Nikola Dukic.

The four men were driving from Lipljan to Strpce when they realised that they were being followed by a Mercedes car. At one point they heard a shot and felt that one of their tyres was punctured. They stopped to replace the wheel when unidentified assailants opened fire on them from the Mercedes and fled, Janicijevic told the Serb sources.

Janicijevic, who is currently in hospital and in stable condition, said that Dejanovic and Stankovic were killed instantly. The fourth man is in the intensive care unit.

Kosovo leaders, international representatives as well as local Albanian and Serb parties have condemned the incident.
