ZAGREB, July 23 (Hina) - The government is not considering a new
model of electing deputies of national minorities and therefore dismisses
allegations to that effect from an article in Jutarnji List daily of Saturday,
according to a press release. The article said the ruling Croatian
Democratic Union (HDZ) and the strongest opposition party, the Social Democrats
(SDP), had agreed to change in the new election law the model of electing
national minorities' deputies, whereby they would be elected from party slates
and not in a special constituency as is the case now.
The government's press release said the allegations were incorrect and
evidently an arbitrary and unfounded interpretation by the author of the
article.
