OSIJEK, July 17 (Hina) - Josip Fehir, who called a press conference earlier on Sunday to report a missing son, an alleged witness of killings of Serb civilians in Osijek in the early 1990s, said later in the day that he had been notified by the police that his son had been transferred to another work place.

Fehir told Hina that two police officers had visited him at his home this afternoon to inform him that his son Krunoslav, a police officer employed with the Osijek Police Department, had been transferred to another work location.

Fehir said that he did not know his son's whereabouts or the nature of his new work place, and added that he would call a press conference on Monday unless he or his lawyer managed to get in touch with his son.

Osijek Police Department chief Stipo Rimac told Croatian Radio that Krunoslav Fehir was well and that his father had been notified about it in the afternoon.

Earlier on Sunday, Josip Fehir told reporters in Osijek that he had learned from his acquaintances that last Thursday, at about 1930 hours, his son Krunoslav had been taken in a red car "apparently to the Office of the Chief Public Prosecutor in Zagreb."

Chief Public Prosecutor Mladen Bajic told Croatian Television by telephone on Sunday evening that "allegations that the Office of the Chief Public Prosecutor is involved in the disappearance of people are ridiculous."

Bajic declined further comment, citing the interests of the investigation and provisions of the Witness Protection Act.
