SUBOTICA, July 14 (Hina) - The Democratic Party of Serbian President Boris Tadic plans to organise a series of events in the northern city of Novi Sad this and next month to mark the tenth anniversary of "the suffering of the Serb people during Operation Storm in Croatia", the Novi Sad-based Gradjanski List newspaper said in its Thursday issue.

"Since 60,000 refugees live in Novi Sad, many of whom are from Croatia, it is our duty to remember the tragedy of 300,000 Serbs who were expelled from Croatia. Although the political climate in Croatia is better now, the process of restoration of the right to property restitution, reconstruction, minority rights, labour rights and other rights they were deprived of, is slow," the newspaper quoted the Democratic Party as saying in a statement.

The party believes that all Serbian authorities must do all in their power to ensure that the refugees are given back their civil and property-related rights as soon as possible.

Operation Storm, a lightning offensive undertaken by Croatian military and police forces on August 4, 1995, ended the Serb insurgency in central Croatia.
