Parliament amends laws on VAT, health care

ZAGREB, July 13 (Hina) - As of next year Croatia will lower the VAT rate on tourist accommodation and organised tours from 22 to 10 per cent, according to amendments to the VAT law which parliament adopted on Wednesday.

Parliament also amended the law on health insurance under which, as of October 1, insurees will pay an administrative tariff on health care.

The amendments to the VAT law equate the VAT rate on organised tours of by both domestic and foreign agencies for both domestic and foreign tourists. Until now, the rate was zero for foreigners but is now 10 per cent for both foreigners and Croatians.

Seventy-four MPs voted for the amendments, 13 abstained and one was against.

The amendments to the health insurance law were supported by slightly fewer MPs.

Insurees will pay a maximum 30 kuna monthly administrative tariff on health care, while other services will be free.

Exempt from paying the administrative tariff will be all those underage, persons with over 80 per cent disability and disabled war veterans. Citizens whose income is below the social census who until now did not pay participation will have to do so in the future.

Parliament also adopted a set of amendments adjusting state support with European Union guidelines.

Parliament resumes the 15th session tomorrow.
