Croatian president says visit to Czech Republic confirms excellent bilateral ties

PRAGUE, March 9 (Hina) - "My visit to the Czech Republic has confirmed the continuation of excellent bilateral relations and Croatia has been given Prague's unreserved support to its European Union membership bid," Croatian President Ivo Josipovic said on Wednesday at the end of his two-day official visit to that Central European country.

Upon his arrival in Prague on Tuesday, Josipovic was received by his host, Czech president Vaclav Klaus.

"I think that the visit has been successful," Josipovic said today.

All top Czech officials, including the heads of state and government, have reassured me that the Czech Republic unreservedly supports our entry into the EU and that there is no dilemma about Croatia's niche in that European club, the Croatian president said at the end of his stay in Prague.

Earlier in the day he held talks with Prime Minister Petr Necas and completed his official visit with talks with representatives of the 1,500-strong Croat minority in the Czech Republic.

The first ethnic Croats arrived there during the 16th century. The community registered its association in 1991. Ethnic Croats have not been awarded the status of ethnic minority.
