Croatian and Hungarian foreign affairs committees meet in Zagreb

ZAGREB, March 1 (Hina) - The Croatian parliamentary's foreign affairs committee, chaired by Frano Matusic, on Tuesday held talks with a delegation of the Hungarian parliament's foreign affairs committee on Croatia's efforts to complete its European Union accession negotiations by June.

Hungary's chairmanship over the EU ends on 30 June.

"Hungary wants Croatia to finish the negotiations by 30 June... I believe that our joint past and decades of cooperation will contribute to the completion of Croatia's accession negotiations," the head of the Hungarian committee, Mihaly Balla, told reporters after the meeting.

He said he was confident that his country together with the Union could accelerate that process.

Matusic said that Hungary had already done much through its steady support for Croatia's integration with the European bloc.

Describing bilateral cooperation as good, Matusic said that Croatia was proud of the Hungarian ethnic minority in Croatia as well as of the activities of the Croatian community in Hungary.
