Bosnian court's appeals chamber hasn't yet decided on Purda's appeal

SARAJEVO, March 2 (Hina) - The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina has not yet made a decision on an appeal which Croatian Tihomir Purda's defence team lodged against a ruling of the Court's first-instance panel of judges on the approval of the extradition of that Croatian war veteran to Serbia where he is wanted for alleged war crimes in Vukovar in 1991.

Court spokeswoman Selma Hadzic told Hina on Wednesday that there were no time frames for rulings of the Appeals Chamber in such cases, adding that, the chamber, however, considers appeals in such matters relatively quickly.

After the Appeals Chamber makes a ruling, its decision and the Purda case will be forwarded to Bosnian Justice Minister Barisa Colak who has a final say and who can either uphold it or decide that Purda be handed over to Serbia or released.

Under the Bosnian legislation, Purda can be held in extradition custody six months since his arrest. This Croatian war veteran was apprehended at the Bosnian-Croatian border crossing of Orasje on 5 January, on an international warrant issued by Serbia. Since then he has been in prison in Zenica, central Bosnia.
