PECS, June 29 (Hina) - The Croatian County of Osijek-Baranja and the Hungarian County of Baranya on Wednesday signed an agreement on cooperation in protection against natural disasters as a long-term programme aimed at increasing public safety.

The EUR127,000 agreement was signed in the southern Hungarian city of Pecs by the head of Osijek-Baranja County, Kresimir Bubalo, and the head of Baranya County, Ferenc Kekes.

Attending the signing ceremony were the Croatian Consul to Pecs, Ivan Bandic, and Hungarian customs, border police and sanitary inspection officials.

The agreement is a continuation of implementation of cross-border cooperation in managing defence and protection against natural disasters, a project initiated towards the end of last year and financed by the European Union as part of the PHARE programme.

The agreement is one of the 16 projects worth a total of EUR3.8 million, which have been agreed as part of regional cross-border cooperation.
