"Istria would like to step firmly and irreversibly into the European future. We would like to give our contribution to the creation of a new Europe and we would like to give our contribution to Croatia's efforts to enter the European Union," County Prefect Ivan Jakovcic said at today's ceremony in Brussels.
The Office of Istria County is located in the same building which houses the offices of the Italian Friuli Venezia Giulia region and the Austrian province of Carinthia.
Jakovcic said that this office will be opened for all who would like, together with Istria, to create European values "on which Istria has so far been developed".
We want to use this office for the promotion of to international projects which are very important for us: the establishment of the network of cooperation among regions and cities of south-eastern Europe and the establishment of the two new Euroregions: the Adriatic region and Alpe-Adria Euroregion, Jakovcic said among other things.
Present at the ceremony were guests from the Italian Friuli Venezia Guilia region, the Croatian mission to the EU and the Croatian Embassy in Belgium.
About 300 regions and cities have their offices in Brussels. The head of Istria's Office is Lorena Sverko.
