VINKOVCI, June 17 (Hina) - Vukovar-Srijem County police on Friday brought in for questioning a dozen persons suspected of having been in the infamous Serb wartime unit Scorpions, spokesman Miroslav Janic said.

This morning, the police searched their houses and found illegal weapons, ammunition and military uniforms.

Janic said this was the continuation of an operation which began with the arrest of Slobodan Davidovic near Vinkovci, eastern Croatia, earlier this week. Davidovic is suspected of having committed war crimes against civilians as a member of the Scorpions, namely of involvement in the murder of six Muslims captured after the fall of Srebrenica, eastern Bosnia-Herzegovina, in the summer of 1995.

Janic said that after the interviews it would be known whether those brought in for questioning today would be charged and arrested.

The police operation ensued a day after the media said that at least 10 ex-Scorpions were living in Croatia and that the police, State Prosecutor's Office and security services knew about that.

The media started writing about the Scorpions' crimes after an amateur video of the murder of the six Muslims was shown at the trial of ex-Yugoslav president Slobodan Milosevic. In the meantime, Serbian authorities launched an operation to arrest them and Croatia joined in.

After Davidovic's arrest, Croatian State Prosecutor Mladen Bajic said that information and evidence had been exchanged with the Serbian state prosecution and that the Hague tribunal's prosecution was expected to submit some information.

Apart from Davidovic, five more ex-Scorpions have been arrested in Serbia and Montenegro.
