ZAGREB, June 10 (Hina) - Croatian and Azerbaijani business people held a meeting at the Croatian Chamber of the Economy (HGK) on Friday as part of the ongoing visit by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Croatia.

At the first meeting of business people from the two countries, the Azerbaijani delegation was informed about the current economic situation in Croatia and cooperation possibilities, the head of the HGK International Relations Department, Dunja Konjevod, said.

Cooperation between the two countries has been insufficient mostly due to lack of information about cooperation possibilities.

Azerbaijani Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Huseyngula Bagirov said the meeting was expected to help the two countries realise significant cooperation possibilities. Business people from Croatia and Azerbaijan, which is a big oil producer, had a very good cooperation at the time when they were part of the former Yugoslav and Soviet state unions.

Last year's trade amounted to only $705,000, with Croatian exports to Azerbaijan amounting to $656,000 and imports from Azerbaijan totalling a mere $49,000. Croatia mostly exported medicines and other industrial products and imported oil products.

After the Azerbaijani state and business delegation was informed about the situation in the Croatian industry, tourism, banking system and legislation, the Azerbaijani business people held separate meetings with Croatian business people.
