The government also formulated amendments to the Law on High School Education under which students enrolling in classical programme high schools this autumn will have to take the national school-leaving examination.

The Science, Education and Sports Ministry has asked that parliament adopt the law under urgent procedure, before the enrolment starts on June 30.

The plan for the sustainable development of education for the next five years will be financially assisted by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The government has greenlighted the launching of a procedure to sign a loan agreement worth US$85 million.

The government proposed that parliament confirm a framework loan for a project called "Integral Development of the Local Community", worth EUR300 million, with the European Investment Bank providing half the amount in the form of a loan.

The government today appointed a member of the Croatian Helsinki Committee, Tin Gazivoda, as acting director of the Human Rights Centre.
