THE HAGUE/ZAGREB, May 3 (Hina) - Bosnian Serb Army General Vinko Pandurevic entered a plea of not guilty before the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague (ICTY) on Tuesday to charges of genocide and war crimes committed in the eastern Bosnian town of Srebrenica in 1995.

"I am not guilty," Pandurevic said after Judge Jean-Claude Antonetti read each of the seven counts of the amended indictment, confirmed on 10 February 2005.

Pandurevic, aged 45, was the commander of the Republika Srpska Army 1st Zvornik Brigade, whose forces played a central role in the execution of over 7,000 Bosnian Muslims of military age detained after the fall of Srebrenica on 11 July 1995 and their burial into mass graves.

He is charged with genocide, conspiracy to commit genocide, persecution racial, religious and political grounds, killings and forced resettlement of the Bosniak population of Srebrenica, as well as with crimes against humanity and violations of the laws and customs of war.

Pandurevic surrendered to the ICTY on 23 March this year and at the initial appearance on 31 March he used his right to postpone his plea for 30 days.
