ZADAR, May 2 (Hina) - The editor in chief of Hrvatski List weekly, Ivica Marijacic, was served at the Zadar County Court on Monday with an indictment the Hague war crimes tribunal issued against him last week.

Marijacic was accompanied by his attorney Marin Ivanovic, who is also on the defence team of Ante Gotovina, a fugitive Croatian general wanted by the UN court.

After being served, Marijacic declined to speak to the press. His attorney said the indictment had been served without arrest or surrender warrants.

"We are ready to act on the summons of competent institutions," said Ivanovic.

He added it was not clear from the indictment which court order Marijacic had violated given that he had neither been in possession of nor heard of an order from the Hague tribunal.

Ivanovic said Marijacic was not guilty of contempt of court as alleged in the indictment.

Marijacic is one of four men accused of contempt of the Hague tribunal for revealing the identity of a protected witness in the Tihomir Blaskic trial. Marijacic obtained a copy of the 19 December 1997 closed-door testimony, which Hrvatski List printed on 18 November 2004, from Markica Rebic, former military intelligence chief.

Rebic and the third accused, newspaper publisher Stjepan Seselj, were served with the indictments today.

The fourth accused, journalist Domagoj Margetic, was not served with the indictment today and is expected to be served tomorrow, his attorney Slaven Martic told Hina.

Margetic is a former editor of Hrvatsko Slovo and editor in chief of Novo Hrvatsko Slovo. He has been in detention at Zagreb's Remetinec penitentiary since late last week, unrelated to the Hague tribunal case.

Margetic was placed in detention at the request of the municipal court in Jastrebarsko because he had failed to show up at court hearings. He is on trial there for fraud.

The Hague tribunal indicted him for printing excerpts of a protected witness' testimony in the Blaskic trial of 16 March 1998 and for revealing the witness' identity.
