ZAGREB, April 27 (Hina) - Two Croatian dailies published in Thursday's issues a six-item plan which is expected to resolve as soon as possible the issue of Ante Gotovina, the runaway general wanted by the Hague war crimes tribunal.

Citing Croatian and European diplomatic sources, Vjesnik and Jutarnji List publish the plan which Prime Minister Ivo Sanader presented at a meeting of an EU task force evaluating Croatia's cooperation with the UN court in Luxembourg on Tuesday.

The first item refers to raising public awareness about the need to respect the acts and principles of the rule of law. According to Vjesnik, the authorities will launch a campaign underlining that nobody is above the law.

According to Jutarnji List, Sanader announced a campaign aimed at reducing the massive public support to the fugitive Gotovina. Sanader said he would personally appoint a coordinator for the implementation of the Action Plan. According to Jutarnji List, the post is likely to go to Assistant Foreign Minister Hido Biscevic.

With the second item, Sanader hinted at intensifying police operations aimed at tracking down Gotovina, including the network supporting him and organising his escape.

According to Vjesnik, in the third item Sanader announced a tougher battle against the leaks of confidential information from state services. The newspaper says that such leaks directly damage police and intelligence operations and create a bad picture of Croatia in Europe.

In the fourth item, the PM announces the continuation of the reform of intelligence services, while the fifth item announces the continuation of intensified operations by intelligence services.

The sixth item announces intensifying cooperation with neighbouring countries. Vjesnik says this is important for operational as well as political and diplomatic reasons.

According to Jutarnji List, Sanader's claim that he has already started cooperating with the Catholic Church so that it too could help in solving the problem is especially interesting to the EU. The daily says that some Western circles saw some elements in the Catholic Church as possible links in the chain helping Gotovina.

This newspaper goes on to say that Sanader's plan was received very well in Luxembourg and that all the participants at the task force meeting got the impression that Croatia has finally resolutely embarked on resolving the last outstanding issue in its cooperation with the Hague tribunal.
