The society led by Sinj Mayor, Mate Jukic, adopted this year's budget totalling 6.28 million kuna (approximately 842,000 euros). A half of this sum will be used for the construction of the society's building.
The VAD society also decided to admit new 78 members, most of whom are members of the local Croatian Defence War veterans' association known as HVIDRA. This is for the first time in the long history of the society to grant at once so many people membership. Now it has 271 members.
The Alka, a unique jousting tournament in today's Europe, dates back to the Middle Ages when it began to be organised in tribute to the glorious victory of the local people of over Ottoman conquerors. In early 2000s the tournament was in the limelight due to some political scandals surrounding it.
