WASHINGTON, April 14 (Hina) - A Bosnian citizen detained in the US prison Guantanamo Bay claims he suffered a stroke which paralyzed his face after being beaten by guards, that they nearly choked him, and broke several of his fingers, according to a complaint lodged with a US federal court.

Mustafa Ait Idr, 34, was born in Algeria but holds Bosnian citizenship. He has been detained in the US prison on Cuba for the past three years on suspicion that he planned to bomb the US Embassy in Sarajevo.

The complaint Idr's attorneys filed against the US government with the federal court in Boston claims there probably exists footage of Idr being tortured and demands that the government provide the tapes if they exist as well as other documents and records of abuse, The Washington Post said on Thursday.

The attorneys requested the material seven months ago but the departments of defence and justice have refused to submit it.

Idr allegedly described the abuse to his attorneys when they visited him in prison.

Idr is one of six Algerians arrested by the Bosnian authorities at the request of the United States in October 2001 on suspicion that they were planning to bomb the US and British embassies in Sarajevo. They were released in January 2002 but were then turned over to the US and imprisoned at Guantanamo.

All six were born in Algeria, five have Bosnian citizenship, and one has permanent residence in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
