ZAGREB, April 6 (Hina) - The Croatian Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, Petar Cobankovic, and the Minister of Food and Rural Development of the German state of Baden Wuerttemberg, Will Stachele, met in Zagreb on Wednesday to discuss possibilities of cooperation in agriculture and rural development.

The possibility of increasing the competitiveness of family farms was highlighted as one of the forms of cooperation, with Stachele noting that attention should be paid to modern marketing campaigns in order to help farmers in placing their products on the market.

Stachele said that possibilities for cooperation were great and that his government could certainly help Croatia with its experience.

Cobankovic informed the German delegation, which will be staying in Croatia until April 7, about the situation in the agriculture sector, ongoing activities aimed at developing rural areas and measures being implemented by his ministry to promote the development of agriculture.

Speaking of the strategic priorities of Croatian agriculture, Cobankovic cited efforts to increase the competitiveness of domestic products, the need to restructure agricultural production by developing labour-intensive branches such as fruit and vegetable growing, olive growing and floriculture.

The Croatian minister also informed his guest about models of subsidies, a programme for the development of cattle production, and food quality control measures.

Stachele invited Cobankovic for a reciprocal visit to Baden Wuerttemberg.
