KARLOVAC, March 30 (Hina) - A four-member French army team, that is on a two-day inspection visit to the Croatian army, on Wednesday visited the Croatian Land Forces' Command in Karlovac.

After a meeting with officers and a lecture, the head of the inspection team, Major Zwilling, said he was satisfied with what he had seen. He added that the team would today fly in a helicopter to Zadar for an aerial inspection and that tomorrow it would carry out a motorised inspection of the Knin area.

Colonel Marijan Jozic of the Defence Ministry's Service for Arms Control, said that the inspection was based on the Vienna Document 99 which was aimed at building confidence and security in Europe.

The Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) adopted the Vienna Document to promote mutual trust and dismiss possible suspicions among countries concerning military activities, in an effort to enhance openness and transparency.

General Dragutin Repinc, the Croatian Land Forces' Chief-of-Staff, said that the inspectors were mostly interested in reserve weapons and the upcoming reform of conscript training.

Repinc said that Croatia was going towards the abolishment of military service. He also pointed to the growing interest in community service.
