"We welcome the statement by the EU Chairman, Luxembourg Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker, about Croatia, which is the result of talks on how to evaluate the last criterion in relations between Croatia and the EU," Sanader told reporters after meeting the Luxembourg presidency.
Juncker informed the prime ministers of acceding and candidate countries about the results of a two-day EU summit that ended on Wednesday.
"We believe that the momentum was maintained, which was most important to us," Sanader said, adding that Croatia would continue preparations for the start of accession talks.
The EU task force will be made up of representatives of the current president Luxembourg and two future presidents Britain and Austria, and representatives of the EU Council, notably the High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, Javier Solana, and of the Commission.
The Council of Ministers decided last week to delay membership talks with Croatia, which were due to have begun on March 17, until agreement was reached within the EU that Zagreb was fully cooperating with the tribunal. Juncker said that the European Council had not changed the ministerial decision and that it remained in force.
Sanader said his government would do its utmost to resolve the last outstanding issue, notably to track down fugitive general Ante Gotovina and hand him over to the Hague tribunal.
"The government will do all it can to resolve this case, and if we cannot resolve it we will ask for an assessment that we are doing all we can," he said.
