ZAGREB, March 16 (Hina) - The Regional Arms Control Verification and Implementation Assistance Centre (RACVIAC) on Wednesday presented its work to the ambassadors of about 20 countries engaged in the centre's work or wishing to join.

RACVIAC was set up in 2000 within the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe, with assistance from the German government, which provided the money, and the Croatian government, which provided the infrastructure, a barracks in Rakitje near Zagreb, German Colonel Frank Odendal said.

When it was established, RACVIAC's task was military and political cooperation in the region. Twenty-one European countries are engaged in the centre.

Odendal said cooperation with security organisations such as NATO and OSCE was good.

Ambassadors and military envoys accredited to Croatia supported the centre's work. Its director, Brigadier General Stergios Papodis of Greece, said the centre would focus its future activity on training staff in light weaponry control.
