SARAJEVO, Feb 25 (Hina) - Bosnian Ambassador to Croatia Zlatko Dizdarevic has said he was under surveillance by the Croatian intelligence but added he does not feel this is a reflection of Zagreb's official policy towards Sarajevo.

Dizdarevic was quoted by Sarajevo's Dnevni Avaz as saying on Friday that he learned of being under surveillance from the media, which made him conclude that he was being linked to some people who had allegedly been engaged in locating Ante Gotovina, the runaway Croatian general wanted by the Hague war crimes tribunal.

"There is a scandal when it is discovered that the intelligence of the host country keeps foreign diplomats under surveillance, but every state is known to do that, although information or evidence of that rarely becomes public."

Dizdarevic said the reason why he had been under surveillance in Croatia might have been a meeting with Florence Hartmann, spokesperson for the Hague tribunal's Office of the Prosecutor, in Zagreb's Sheraton "two or three years ago". He added his friendship with Hartmann began when she was Le Monde's correspondent in Slobodan Milosevic's Serbia.

"Everything that was published (in the Croatian media) should be seen within the context of some squaring of accounts within Croatia's intelligence community and not as a case reflecting Zagreb's policy towards Sarajevo," the ambassador said, adding it was up to Bosnia-Herzegovina's Foreign Ministry to decide if it would take measures.

Ministry spokesperson Lepa Babic said Croatia had never notified Sarajevo about Dizdarevic's illegal activities. She added the whole thing was evidently a Croatian internal affair.
