BELGRADE, Jan 27 (Hina) - Witness Aleksandar Vasiljevic, who was chief of the security department of the former Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) in 1991, on Thursday continued his testimony at the Ovcara war crimes trial before the War Crimes Court in Belgrade.

Volunteers from Serbia constantly accused JNA troops of treason and their units had a different status than regular JNA units, the witness said, adding that the JNA did not have full control over volunteer units.

After Vasiljevic, reserve captain Svetolik Vukic, who in 1991 was a member of the 80th Motorised Brigade from Kragujevac, took the stand. Vukic was at Ovcara outside the eastern Croatian town of Vukovar for an hour or two on the day when prisoners from the Vukovar hospital were brought there. The witness said that he did not see any prisoners being abused and that it was only much later that he learned of the massacre from the press.

One of the 17 indictees in the Ovcara trial, Milan Bulic, a former resident of Vukovar charged with participation in the killing of prisoners from the Vukovar hospital, will be tried in separate proceedings, the War Crimes Court decided today. Expert witnesses have confirmed that Bulic suffers from a progressive motor neuron disease, and although capable of following the trial, he is not capable of sitting in the courtroom for long periods of time every day. He will be tried separately but under the same indictment.

The trial will continue on Friday with the questioning of new witnesses for the prosecution.
