The coverage of imports with exports was 48.2 percent while the country's foreign trade deficit amounted to 47.2 billion kuna (more than $7.77 billion).
Expressed in kuna, Croatia's exports in the first 11 months of 2004 rose by 15.7 percent in relation to 2003, while imports went up by 5.7 percent. Expressed in US dollars exports rose by 28.2 percent and imports by 17 percent.
According to the, the majority of Croatia's exports in the first 11 months of last year was machinery and transportation devices (US$5.23 billion or 11.8 percent more than in 2003).
Croatia's most important foreign trade partner in the first 11 months of 2004 were European Union countries (US$4.7 billion in exports and $10.47 billion in imports). Croatia's exports to the EU countries rose by 22.6 percent while the country's imports from the EU went up by 13.5 percent.
Individually, Italy is Croatia's number one foreign trade partner. Croatia's exports to Italy amounted to $1.7 billion which is 11.1 percent more than in 2003, while imports from Italy amounted to $2.55 billion or 9.3 percent more than the year before.
Croatia's most important non-EU foreign trade partner is Bosnia-Herzegovina with exports amounting to $1.04 billion (27.8 percent more) and imports to 318.9 million (57.7 percent more).
