Norway helps countries with land-mine problems because it feels that help in demining is its humanitarian duty, Walaas said, adding that the completion of Cromac's third stage would raise the quality of demining and make it more effective.
Excluding today's deed of donation, Norway has set aside 15 million krone for mine removal projects in Croatia this year and will continue to help, said the ambassador.
HCR head Otto Jungwirth said Norway had set aside some 13 million euros for demining in Croatia to date and that it had donated a EUR3.4 million state-of-the-art scanner to the HCR.
Norway has also helped in drawing up precise digital maps of minefields and front-lines during the 1991-95 war.
Jungwirth said this project made the HCR important for the region in providing scanning services to members of the South-East Europe Mine Action Coordination Council and in the introduction of other programmes for mine action centres in the region.
