VUKOVAR, Nov 18 (Hina) - President Stjepan Mesic and delegations
of parliament and the government, led by Speaker Vladimir Seks and Prime
Minister Ivo Sanader, on Saturday laid wreaths and lit candles at the monument
to the people killed at Ovcara on the occasion of Vukovar Victims Remembrance
Day. Ovcara is a farm in eastern Croatia where 200 wounded soldiers
and civilians from Vukovar's general hospital were killed on 20 November
1991.
"This is the day we remember the victims killed in Vukovar," Sanader
said, adding that those victims represented a commitment to make Vukovar also a
symbol of Croatia's future.
Seks said that those responsible for the crimes committed in Vukovar in
1991 had still not been punished.
