As announced this morning, the vote on discussed items was postponed until further notice, and it is not known if the parliament will allow extending detention for independent MP Branimir Glavas in an investigation into war crimes against civilians.
The position of the ruling HDZ party on this issue is unclear. The HDZ on Wednesday proposed that Glavas should be remanded in custody only until witnesses who he might influence are questioned, but not on the grounds of the gravity of the crime he is suspected of.
HDZ members said today they needed more time to make a final decision on the matter.
Sources in the government said that this conclusion was delayed until the Zagreb County Court ruled on an appeal by Glavas's defence against a ruling by an investigating judge to prolong his detention.
The sources in the government said that any decision by the parliament that would be adopted before the decision by the Zagreb County Court could have been interpreted as an act of pressure on the judiciary.
Since the Zagreb County Court today turned down the appeal by Glavas's attorneys, there are no more obstacles for the parliament to make a decision on whether it will approve the extension of detention for Glavas or reactivate his immunity. A vote on this matter is expected next week.
