SUBOTICA, Nov 16 (Hina) - The Democratic League of Croats in
Vojvodina (DSHV), the only political party representing the Croat minority in
Serbia, issued a statement on Thursday saying it would try to win a seat in the
Serbian Parliament in forthcoming elections in a coalition with the Democratic
Party. Under an agreement between the two parties, one member of
the DSHV will be ensured a seat in the Serbian Parliament, and the DSHV
presidency has decided that it will be the party's leader, Petar Kuntic.
The Democratic Party is the strongest party in the democratic bloc, and
its leader, Boris Tadic, who is also President of Serbia, is the most popular
politician in the country.
The DSHV's longtime coalition partner, the League of Vojvodina
Hungarians, has decided to run on its own in the elections, which are scheduled
for January 21, 2007.
