Prior to Tadic's decision to call the elections, the Serbian parliament adopted a law on the implementation of Serbia's Constitution after an extensive debate early on Friday morning. The new law regulates that parliamentary elections be held within 60 days at the earliest and 120 days at the latest from the day of the adoption of the law.
Presidential, regional and local elections should be called by the end of next year.
Serbia's new constitution was confirmed at a referendum held on 28 and 29 October.
