Among other things, Biskupic refuted claims that the Culture Ministry had forgotten books, saying this year's budget was increased by 20 per cent and that funds for authors had been increased too.
Biskupic said that all three fairs focused on and presented Croatia as a modern state.
Slovene Culture Minister Vasko Simoniti spoke on behalf of this year's partner country at Interliber.
He recalled the Croatian-Slovene partnership throughout history, highlighting the joint stance of the two countries' writers' associations against the unitarian policy of the Serbian Writers' Association and ex-Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic's policy in general. "Those were risky and legendary times," he said.
Simoniti said Slovenia's presentation at Interliber this year was probably the most important live presentation of Slovene writing in this region.
Interliber is being held under the auspices of Croatia's Culture Ministry and closes on November 11.
