In response to the panel discussion which was held in Osijek on Saturday, Gen. Tus told the Croatian Television's (HTV) prime time news programme on Saturday evening: "Like generals, like statements!" He also accused them of having stirred a commotion among people with their statements and behaviour.
The Croatian Generals' Corps (HGZ) issued an open letter on Sunday asking General Tus how he could shamelessly claim that "members of the HGZ are persons of questionable morality".
In the ironic letter, the HGZ said that during the Homeland Defence War, when they joined the army they did not have an opportunity to be trained for generals' ranks, while he had enough time to do so before the war.
They also said they had placed faith in his knowledge, but that "we were also very cautious and it was not seldom that we had to compare your orders with the Geneva Conventions on the law and customs of war".
The HGZ believes it is high time for them to prevent further criminalisation of the Homeland Defence War and war veterans.
The association also sent a letter to the HTV editorial board, complaining that a report made by HTV journalists about the Osijek panel discussion was unfair, biased, and tendentious,
The Zagreb branch of the HVIDRA war veterans' association on Monday joined in the criticism of Gen. Tus over his statements about the Osijek event and the HGZ members, and it also expressed dissatisfaction with the HTV footage on the Osijek discussion.
