Science ministry, French research institute sign memorandum of cooperation

ZAGREB, Oct 30 (Hina) - A memorandum of scientific cooperation was signed on Monday by the Croatian Science and Education Ministry and the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS).
ZAGREB, Oct 30 (Hina) - A memorandum of scientific cooperation was signed on Monday by the Croatian Science and Education Ministry and the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS).

The document will contribute to better cooperation and ties between science and industry in Croatia as well as intensify cooperation between Croatia and France, signatories agreed.

The document was signed at the Science and Education Ministry by Minister Dragan Primorac and the director of the CNRS Department for International Relations, Izo Abram.

Primorac expects the memorandum on help settle significant issues in Croatia, such as intellectual property and patent protection, in order to step up cooperation between science and industry.

Abram said the document was an important step in the creation of the uniform European Research Area. Both he and Primorac were agreed this Area was something without which European science could not compete in world terms.

French Ambassador to Croatia Francois Saint-Paul said the memorandum was proof of the readiness to cooperate and trust French scientists and institutions had in Croatian colleagues and institutions.

Primorac said the memorandum regulated cooperation between the two countries' research teams and use of scientific equipment.

CNRS is France's biggest and most renowned public research institute permanently employing 26,000 people as well as 4,000 part-time. Its budget for this year is EUR2.09 billion.
